Let me spin you a tale about this remarkable piece. It all began with a tree standing tall in the heart of Calgary, Alberta that was marked for an untimely removal. This is May Day wood, a cherry sub-species which boasts the same enchanting hues and distinctive grain patterns as its broader kin.
Last fall, my father and I embarked on an adventure, milling the wood and tending to it, letting it rest for a year before it was ready to reveal its hidden beauty. This wood rescued just moments before meeting the unforgiving wood chipper, has endured an 18-month journey, a labor of love and craftsmanship.
